You’ve Wrapped! What’s Next?

You did it - you’ve wrapped! After weeks, months (maybe even years) of giving it your all, it’s finally done. You've poured everything into the project, probably skipped a few social events (and full nights of sleep), and now – there's some space.

Finishing a shoot or an edit can be a strange mix of relief, fatigue, and uncertainty. Maybe you’re heading into a few quiet days, maybe straight onto another job, or maybe it’s not clear what’s next. That’s all part of it, but one thing’s certain – this is a valuable moment to pause, reset, and look after yourself.

If you work freelance (as so most crew & cast do) you rarely get built-in recovery time. So this means you probably need to create it for yourself. Even a few intentional days of rest and reflection can make a huge difference to your wellbeing and your ability to show up strong on your next job.

Here are some tips on where to start.

Improving Wellbeing Between Jobs

Do What Brings You Joy

What are the things you enjoy that you haven’t had time for? Make a quick list – on your phone, in a notebook – of things that make you feel good. They might be simple, everyday pleasures you haven’t had time for lately – seeing mates, binge-watching something without guilt, or eating a hot meal in your own home. Make plans that feel restful and fun.

Refill Your Tank

Shoots can drain you, physically and mentally. Now’s your time to refill. That might look like catching up on sleep, getting outside for a walk, or doing absolutely nothing for a bit. Whatever gives you energy – make time for it.

Tune Into Your Social Needs

Life on a production can be intensely social. If you need a break from people now that it’s over, that’s very normal. On the flip side, if you’ve been working away and missing friends, you might need more connection. But be mindful of social burnout, especially if you’re jumping straight onto another job.

Take 10 Minutes To Reflect

Grab your favourite hot or cold drink, a piece of paper and a pen, and ask yourself:

What was the best part of the job?
What was tough?
What did you learn or find surprising?
How did you feel at the start vs Day 1?
What do you want to take into your next job?

This is just for you – no one else needs to see it (and yes, you can rip it up after!). The point is to check in with yourself and your experience.

Reset Your Rhythm

Shoots mess with everything – sleep, eating, movement. Your body and mind may need a new groove. Now’s a great time to build healthier habits, especially sleep. Aim for 7–9 hours a night and stick to regular wake-up and bedtimes if you can. Your body and brain need it.

Not sure where to start?

Try the Film & TV Charity’s Wellbeing Check-In. It’s a simple way to check in with where you’re at and gives you a tailored plan and advice on how to take care of yourself right now.

Remember – you don’t have to earn rest, and you don’t ‘get to relax’ by being more productive. Prioritise yourself – because the next project will need you at your best, and so do you!
